Our hosts from the Fresno Chapter are making all of the preparations necessary make this a smooth-running convention, but they are in need of volunteers to help during the convention.
There are a number of different jobs available. Here is a brief description of each.
The Barber Shop Emporium will be located at the Doubletree Hotel, and is open from Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 1:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Shop Assistants will help to keep the store tidy, and will assist with set up on Friday and tear-down on Saturday, before and after the store hours. The store will not be open during contest sessions, so you will be free to see all of the events.
Workers at convention registration will primarily be checking in members who have advance registrations and giving them their convention badge and a convention program. Other duties may include assisting the Registrar at the Help Desk with late registrations, single-event tickets, and checking in quartet competitors. A "floater" will be on hand to cover for breaks, so everyone will have an opportunity to see some of the competitors.
The door monitors are responsible for making sure the doors to the auditorium are closed and not permitting admission to the hall while the competitors are on-stage, and re-opening them once the competitors have completed their performance. You'll be working with the house-provided ushers, so you'll have an opportunity to see some of the competitors.
The Judges Services workers will assist the Judges Services Chairman in seeing to the needs of the Panel of Judges. They will maintain the Judges Room with coffee, tea, cold drinks and snacks as well as a buffet lunch between sessions. During the contests they will have assigned seats near the Contest Administrator, and may be asked to perform light duties as needed. Please note that this job is an all-day commitment for both Friday and Saturday. It is a big job, but it comes with premium seats to see all of the events!
The duty of the competitor host is to keep the quartets and choruses lined up and ready to go on-stage at the proper time. They will work backstage with the Competitor Flow Chairman and the Stage Manager to make sure the each competitor advances through their appointed rooms on schedule, and will be in continuous communication using two-way radio handsets to make adjustments as needed to maintain a smooth-running contest. You'll be working backstage, but will have a chance to see the last few competitors for each session as well as the entire Show of Champions.
Non-competitor volunteers will receive a complimentary pass to the events.
Competitors are also welcomed to volunteer — and we would love to have you join us — but unfortunately the contest rules do not allow us to give you a complimentary registration.
