Twenty-five choruses and sixty quartets crossed the stage at the three international preliminary and divisional contest held this Spring. Four quartets have qualified to represent the Far Western District at the 2026 International Convention in St. Louis; two senior quartets and one senior chorus will represent FWD at the 2027 Midwinter Convention in Virginia Beach; and five choruses have qualified for the 2027 International Convention in Minneapolis.
This also marks the first time we have held International Quartet Preliminary contests at all three divsionals, rather than just at the event held in March, including the first time ever that a prelim was held in Arizona, that being largely due to March conflicting with MLB Spring Training. Judging by the number of quartets who entered the preliminary contest this year, it's reasonable to assess this as a success, and hopefully we will continue this practice going forward.
Another exception is that we held International Chorus Preliminary contests to qualify for next year's big show in Minnapolis. Normally this occurs at our Fall Convention. This was due primarily to allow choruses who might not otherwise be able to afford the travel expense of going to Hawai'i the opportunity to qualify on the mainland. While five choruses did qualify already, it's possible that more may earn a trip to the Twin CIties at the Fall contests in Honolulu.
